For small businesses

What Summarly does.

Snap your receipts and bring in your bank statements. Summarly matches and categorises every transaction, flags what’s missing, and gets the month ready to close — for your accountant, or for filing yourself.

Capture and match receipts

Snap a paper receipt with the iPhone Shortcut, drop a PDF straight in, or forward the email to your workspace's own receipt address. Summarly reads each one and lines it up with the bank line it belongs to — a complete audit trail, built without the data entry.

Categorize spending

New transactions are categorized from your vendor history the moment they arrive, onto a two-level chart of accounts your accountant will recognise. Rules are keyed to the vendor, not a fragile text match — set one once and it holds.

Only exceptions reach you

Unmatched lines, duplicate receipts, and missing documents are flagged before month-end. Most lines never need you at all; the ones that do collect in one queue, and once they are cleared the month is ready to close.

Requests

Ask for what's missing — a receipt, a category, the office lease — one thread per ask, with its own status. Whoever you asked gets an email and answers by replying to it, and an accountant you invited can ask you the same way.

Ask your books

Type a question in plain English — VAT position, travel spend since January, expected corporate tax — and get an answer from your real numbers.

The four statements

Trial balance, income statement, balance sheet and cash flow, for any period you pick — built from the transactions you already approved, with a separate ledger for year-end adjustments. No closing ritual, no second system.

Your VAT position

Output, input, and what you actually owe — current as of the last transaction that landed. Q1 to Q4 side by side, and the years behind you a click away.

A year of deadlines

Your VAT, provisional tax, and year-end obligations mapped a year ahead, with rough amounts from your own figures.

Invoicing

Build an invoice as you'd read it — your line items, VAT, and numbering — then send it and track it from unpaid to paid. Bill a client every month? Set it recurring and it writes itself.

Payslips

Add your team and Summarly generates each payslip — net pay plus the contributions and tax to remit, at your region's rates.

Documents

Contracts, registrations, correspondence — one shelf per company, in folders you name. Every PDF and image gets a title, a summary and tags written for it, so you find it later without remembering the filename.

Accounting exports

One-tap export bundles — every transaction with its receipt attached — ready for your accountant or their software. Or invite them in, read-only, and skip the handover.

Books

Your year as a printed object: a wall of covers, one a month, and a bare register behind them. Nothing to action — just the ledger, looked at.

For accounting firms

Every client’s transactions and receipts.

Clients submit receipts and import their bank statements. Summarly matches and categorises transactions as they arrive, so you can see what’s missing, what needs attention, and what’s ready for review.

Clients do the capture

They upload their receipts and statements themselves — you review decisions, not data entry.

Attention at a glance

One view across all clients: what's matched, what's missing, what's due next.

Client portal, included

A login for every client — with live bank feeds coming soon — the layer big practice suites charge for, out of the box.

Priced per client

Firm staff seats, priced per client rather than per software seat — bringing a junior in does not change the bill.

Questions

Do I need to connect a bank?

No. Skip it and the receipts you add create the transactions themselves — or drop a CSV. Automatic bank sync is a Premium feature, coming soon.

What about paper receipts?

Snap a photo. Summarly reads the amount, date and merchant and matches it to the transaction it belongs to.

Does it change my books on its own?

It categorises and matches on its own, and brings you only what it can't call. Nothing is posted to your books without a tap.

Does it track my VAT?

Yes. Every transaction's VAT is tracked, so you get a live VAT position and a heads-up on what's due next — from your real numbers. Filing the return stays with you or your accountant.

What do I give my accountant?

A clean export: every transaction with its receipt attached, categorised and ready. Nothing to chase.

Is there a free plan?

Yes — a free tier that stays free: import your statements, capture and match receipts, try auto-categorization, invoice, run payslips, read the four financial statements, track your VAT position and tax deadlines, store documents, export, and invite your accountant. Premium lifts the categorization and Ask-your-books limits and adds recurring invoices, multiple workspaces and live bank sync when it lands — it doesn't lock away sections.
